Today we head out cross country along the ‘Dragons
Back’ by means of an ancient public bridleway.
This winding trail leads across rolling terrain
and offers fine vistas of the beaches along
the Atlantic coast to the Straits of Gibraltar
and Zahara bay. We visit the old monastery
of La Porquera & enjoy a guided tour of
the historic dovecotes (the largest in Europe!)
We continue to Las Breñas Natural Park,
a 5,000 hectare reserve of dense Mediterranean
Pine planted in the 1920’s to halt the
encroaching sand dunes. We enjoy a picnic along
the way. A sandy track leads us to the seaside
village of Los Caños from where we continue
to Cape Trafalgar. This barren rocky outcrop
- host to Nelson’s last victory - is
flanked by two magnificent and undeveloped
white sand beaches. A clear day offers stupendous
views of the North African coast. After an
optional coffee in a local beach bar we make
a 15min. transfer back to Vejer. Evening free
before enjoying a selection of tapas & introduction
to traditional Andalucian food at a local restaurant.
